  • Obligatory Blog

    Trying to solve The Independent crossword. Figured out half of it. Hmm. 12 across; Break the law, 6 letters! :-/

    Decided that it's about time that I start thinking about what I want to do, when I graduate. Registered for Graduate Recruitment Fair, next week! Ideal job;

    1. Decent wage :yes:
    2. Interesting
    3. Ethical company (Not McDonalds!).

    :wave:

  • Had A (Job-Related) Brainwave...

    And now I'm waiting for 10 o'clock, so I can call the library. Actually had the idea on Sunday, but thanks to the Bank Holiday, I've had to wait until today to phone them.

    Now, remember, I'm looking for voluntary work for the summer. Make sure you mention that word!

  • He Kept That One Quiet!

    Just reminded myself to phone my Granddad (on my mother's side), to wish him a happy belated birthday. It was his birthday yesterday, and I only remembered today, whilst walking past the birthday cards in Sainsburys! :roll:

    Anyway, while talking to Granddad about family news; he tells me that my cousin Sam has got married! 88| I knew that he had a girlfriend, who is a park ranger in Alaska. I knew that he wanted to go over there to live, and that he would have to marry her. The surprise is, that he did all this about two weeks ago; and none of the Ashwell's - not even his parents - could attend the ceremony! 88|

    He's the first one of my cousins to get married, and he's about five months younger than me! But, he did go to university before me (at the conventional age!), and he is probably maturer than me!

    :D Congratulations Sam! :yes:

  • My Life's Soundtrack

    An idea which I stole borrowed from Graeme Philips.

    My favourite songs, and why I like them;

    1. Basket Case - Green Day Because I am a basket case! :)) Seriously. I love this song because it describes me; especially the line,

    "Neurotic to the bone, no doubt about it"

    2. Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin First heard this song in the film School of Rock, and after that I knew that I had to get Led Zeppelin 3; just for the song! :) I only reason I can find for liking it; it's just a brilliant song to dance (in the privacy of your bedroom!) to. :yes:

    3. Sweet Child O' Mine - Guns 'n Roses A record collection is definitely not complete without a copy of "Appetite For Destruction"! The long guitar solo makes this my song to play Air Guitar to. Also imagine I'm the girl he's singing about... ;)

    4. Walk The Line - Johnny Cash This is a brilliant song. (See recent post about film) The music and the lyrics seem to fit together easily. Which is kind of appropriate, if you consider the subject matter! ;)

    5. Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes Like Walk The Line, the music and lyrics compliment each other. Jack White is a genius, who can take a song and make it sound amazing!

    6. Way Down - Elvis Presley The King has to be on this list! As I love all his songs, it is difficult to select just the one. But, Way Down is definitely my favourite! It sums up the feeling of lust/love, that I have felt many times in my life! :>

    7. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana "Nevermind" is on my mental list of albums to buy. Have attempted to understand the lyrics, and the only one I can remember is "I feel stupid, and contagious" (or something like that!). Like the Led Zeppelin song, it is just brilliant to rock to. :yes:

    8. Nobody Does It Better - Carly Simon First heard it on the radio, a few years ago and thought it was an amazing song! For some reason, it makes me think about sex (like I need an excuse! ;)). Obviously, an important song on the soundtrack!

    9. Walk of Life - Dire Straits Another Air Guitar song! :yes: The perfect song to walk up to. If there was ever a film about my life (boring! :zz:), this would play during the opening titles! :)

    That's my soundtrack. I didn't quite manage 10, but these are all the songs that actually mean something to me! :)

  • Wiki Weirdness

    Wikipedia has this on it's main page;

    Burma extends house arrest detention of opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi for another year.

    Next to a picture of German Chancellor, Angela Merkel!

    :)) :crazy: :)) :crazy: :))

  • Letter Meme From The Purple Dragon

    Purple Dragon http://purpledragon.blog.co.uk has tagged me with this letter meme thing!

    You have to write 10 things starting with said letter that reflect 'you'.

    I've been tagged with the letter 'T'. ;) Okay, here goes;

    1. Thompson The obvious one! My surname. It has the same number of letters as my first name! :yes:

    2. Typing Something that I took years to master. But now I can type, I wonder how I survived without this skill!

    3. Teams A football reference! Are you surprised?! ;) My teams are Arsenal (obviously!) and Barnet (Because that's where I live, and they need all the support they can get!).

    4. Tables Because they are so useful! You can eat, study and sleep at a table! Especially library tables (Oops, shouldn't have said that!). ;)

    5. The Lady of Shalott My favourite poem. It's beautiful, mysterious and made me cry the first time I read it!

    6. Take That The group (it's stretching it a bit to call them a band!) that I actually admit to liking, when I was 12!

    7. Teasing I like this word; it just slides out of the mouth. I like the action, as well. It means that someone likes you! ;)

    8. Teachers Especially the university teachers! ;) They have been encouraging, approachable and friendly!

    9. Text Two meanings for this one. First, text is another way to describe a book; I have many books on my bookshelf - more books than shelf space, in fact! :)) Second, Txt Msg; my primary mode of communication with my friends and family (My Dad has finally figured out how to text!).

    10. Test Driving. Exams. Other random tests. I've done loads of them! (Especially Driving Tests!) Hmm. Life's like one long practical test; with no opportunity to resit. That means don't totally screw it up!

    That's my list! Not totally orthodox; but I'm totally unorthodox! :))

    You're tagged if you're reading this post! :)) Haha! Leave a comment, and I will give you a letter!

  • 100% Cocoa

    Don't know why that is this post title, other than the fact that I opened that 100% Cocoa bar of Chocolate that I bought in Paris. :P Mmm. Strong. Tastes like coffee. Like drugs (the legal sort, in case you think otherwise!). ;)

    Realised today, that in two weeks time it will be a year since I started blogging at this place! 88| Blogging like a drug, too! Which reminds me, been looking at my statcounter (recommended by Prydwen!) and seeing where my readers come from. Hey, I'm top of this list! :D Okay, who else is here;

    Egypt
    Illnois (These two appear to be one of visitors!)
    Universita' Di Pisa, Italy
    Lots of visitors from America. Hello Americans!

    Just watched Brokeback Mountain (again!) on DVD. Love is like a drug, as well!

    Jack: I wish I knew how to quit you!

    Yeah. Do you really want to? ;)

  • Stop Giving Me Ideas!

    :))

    http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/politics/article601356.ece

    George Galloway was asked this (rather leading, in my opinion!) question;

    "Would the assassination of, say, Tony Blair by a suicide bomber - if there were no other casualties - be justified as revenge for the war on Iraq?"

    What kind of answer was the reporter expecting?! George Galloway opposed Blair and Bush's invasion of Iraq; he's a political opponent of Blair! :**: I'm not a big fan of Galloway, but it seems that he has been given a bad press!

    Related news: Apparently Blair is due to be awarded a medal, for his support of Bush in "The War on Terror" (Stupid name!). Medals should be given for acts of heroism (word?), not for some stupid political reason!

    Jeremy Vine was talking about it about half an hour ago! There was someone who was pro the war. He was spewing out the same arguments (9/11, WMD, etc!), which have been disproved! :## Made me very angry!

  • Am I Crazy?

    Silly question, I know!

    Decided I needed to start (or re-start!) a fitness regime, this morning! So, I went out jogging. Guess what!? It started raining again! :no:

    So, I attempt to continue jogging. By the time I'm half way through the park, my clothes are soaking wet! So I turn round and walk home (via the shops!;)).

    Hope I don't catch a cold, because of this! But, I'll have the whole summer to recover... :yes:

    :crazy:

  • Walk The Line

    Love the song, and now love the movie! I practically grew up listening to Johnny Cash (thank goodness for good parents, with great taste in music!). Brilliant, brilliant film! :yes:

    Who did he write the song about? I think he wrote it about June Carter, because he always loved her, even when she married that Race Car Driver! Later in the film, he shouted "It's not wrong!" to June after they had just, well, had sex!

    Best line of the film. Johnny's talking to the record company about doing a recording "live" in Folsom Prison;

    A&R Guy: Your fans are gospel folk, Johnny. They're Christians, and they don't wanna hear you singing to a bunch of murderers and rapists, tryin' to cheer 'em up.
    Johnny:Then they ain't Christians.

    Hmm. It's late. I'm high on emotion from a great film. And, now I'm just rambling about something that isn't interesting!

    :roll:

  • Please...

    Could the powers-that-be in the world of buses (probably Transport for London!), make their little minds up over where exactly the temporary bus stop is supposed to be?! :## Is it supposed to be at the end of my street, or at the station? Of course, it would solve the problems, if there was a temporary bus stop sign. No, that is way too logical!

    (I am still using the buses, because I've haven't got a car yet!)

    Funniest bus moment; today, on the 383 route, the driver pulls up outside New Barnet Station, turns the engine off, and runs to the toilet in the station! :)) If I didn't have such an obscene amount of free time, I would be annoyed! But, I have lots of free time, and that was hilarious! :))

    :crazy:

  • Haha Hehe!

    Saw this in the Pandora column in today's Independent;

    Last week, the [Press Gazette] asked [Noel] Edmonds whom he'd most like to interview, and what question he would ask.

    He named the Daily Mail's editor, Paul Dacre, and proposed: "Was your conscience surgical removed, or did you never have one?"

    :)) :))

    There is more; apparently the question was censored, but I don't fancy typing the whole anedote out! (It's not the Indy's website!).

    Now, what should I do? :-/

    1. Look for summer job.
    2. Tidy bedroom.
    3. Write poetry and rock songs.

    Hmm. Definitely prefer the latter two options! ;)

    :wave:

  • I'm Bored; Need A Summer Job!

    Found this website www.e4s.co.uk; looking on there for jobs!

    Or, alternatively, make sure the builders are actually working! :))

    Louisa Outram has tagged me. Honestly, what do you people think I am? :-/

  • And It Seemed Like It Was Meant To Happen...

    Firstly, I would like to say that, unlike those moronic Chelski fans, I will not be attempting to force a referee into early retirement! I don't think I've seen a worse display of refereeing, since Arsenal v Newcastle December 2001, when Graham Poll gave Newcastle a penalty that never was! :##

    Of course, it didn't help that the defence abandoned Jens Lehmann, before he was sent off! Henry kicked around by Barcelona players, stupid ref did nothing! But, as I said, I'm not going to do what those Chelski thugs do, and bully a referee into retirement!

    Walked round Paris, today. Found a lovely little Chocolate shop, selling chocolate with 100% Cocoa. Brought one bar of the stuff! That might please some of the females on blog!
    ;)

  • I have to be quick...

    Well, I have twenty minutes, but I'm using an annoying keyboard!

    Just spent a whole morning wandering around Paris; looking at the Louvre but not going in because it is too expensive! This place is brilliant (Paris, that is)!

    Brought a souvenir Arsenal-Barcelona scarf!

    Got to go now, keyboard is beginning to piss me off! :##

  • We're All Going To Gay Paree!

    Well, I am anyway!

    Final essay of this year, handed in at 9:15 this morning. :) Surprised that the Student Office was open at that time! 88| But, it is deadline day.

    I've finished my second year, already! 88| I graduate next year! Got to start thinking about what I want to do, when I emerge into the real world! ;) Where have these last two years gone?! It only seems like, okay, not quite yesterday, maybe last week! ;)

    Off to Paris, sometime this evening. Coach leaves Victoria at 8:30pm - that's ten hours to kill! Suppose I should go back to twiddling my thumbs! :))

    :crazy:

  • All Done Now!

    History essay has been typed up, checked and printed off; ready to hand in to the Trent Park Student Office (Not the Enfield one, Jenni!), on Monday morning! :>>

    Now, I've just got to chill out and enjoy this weekend! (Especially Doctor Who, tonight!). And, enjoy my little trip to Paris, next week!

    Long summer holiday ahead! What Am I going to do?

    Biscuit. Because they are small, flat and round! :))

    What is your favourite from the Roses tin?
    The Dairy Milk chocolate!

    Ever wanted to be in the Red Hand Gang?
    What?! :crazy:

    Whats the last game you played on the PC?
    Probably that internet game that involves throwing scrunched up bits of paper in a virtual waste paper bin! (Yeah, I know that was months ago, but I've been really busy since then!).

    Magic Roundabout or Willo the Wisp?
    Willo the Wisp. I remember having a Willow the Wisp jigsaw when I was little. Or was that my sister's?! Can't remember, we shared so much when we were small!

    How would you spend £1 to make it stretch the furthest?
    The Independent. (And save the change for the Saturday edition!). Can stretch to a 30 minute bus journey, and then to lunchtime! :yes:

  • Yes!

    It's all over! Well, the exams anyway! :yes: Had a Jack Daniels with coke (Double, of course!), when I stumbled into The Forum. Hooray; the boring module is over, and lets hope I never have to do it again! :))

    Now, need to drink some more Jack Daniels. Maybe I can work on that essay, tonight! ;)

    :wave:

  • Can I Remember...

    ...All this stuff about Marx and Rousseau? :-/

    Spent an hour, this morning, writing down from memory, what exactly they are arguing! Didn't do too badly; no mental blocks or anything! Now, I've just got to figure out how to critique both of them, in an academic (non-sarcastic) way! :yes:

    Looked up Teleological on Dictionary.com (Marx apparently has a teleological view of history!);

    1. The study of design or purpose in natural phenomena.
    2. The use of ultimate purpose or design as a means of explaining phenomena.
    3. Belief in or the perception of purposeful development toward an end, as in nature or history.

    The third definition looks like it is relevant to Marx; the "end" being communism! If he's looking for a revolution, he might have a long wait; someone invented Big Brother! :))

    Now, how do I say that academically?!

    :wave:

  • What Would Jesus Drive?

    http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4757165.stm?dynamic_vote=ON#vote_4757165

    Saw this like on the BBC, which got me thinking. I think he would drive a camper van; he could drive all the disciples around, then!

    :))

  • This Is Going To Be Quick!

    Survived the Middle East exam, yesterday. Despite a small cock up regarding the rooms. Result; start at ten past ten, finish at ten past twelve! :## By that time, my left elbow had been red for an hour, and my little finger was screaming in pain (not literally, because that would be a biological miracle!).

    Now I have one exam and one essay, and then I've finished the second year! :D One exam and one essay away from going to Paris! Ooh, I'm so excited!

    Have to go now. Revise Rousseau and Marx! Rousseau goes on about how in the 'state of nature' we are all good, and when we meet people we become vain and selfish. Rousseau ideal state would be a direct democracy, because representatives don't really represent us! (Can't think where he got that idea from! ;))
