  • Driving Around Nutcase City*

*Or, as most people refer to it, London.

    Parking
Leaving Costco's car park yesterday, I saw two motorists who clearly had no clue.

    1. Dopey women in small 4x4 sitting in the middle of the roadway, blocking other drivers in the car park. - NOTE: If you're waiting for someone, do it in a way that doesn't annoy the hell out of other people.

    2. Someone in big, lumbering vehicle reversing out of a space and making a big deal out of turning round and leaving the car park. - May I suggest a smaller motor, one you can probably handle? ;)

And what is it with leaving objects lying in the road? Ever thought a hubcap, recycling box or pile of rubbish in a position where people can drive over it, might just cause an accident?!

A great parody, that didn't come from the brain of Weird Al Yankovic!

MadTV present (courtesy of You Tube!)

Syphilis Girl, based on the song by TwatTimbaland and Nelly Furtado.

Well, the song is right! That is the price they pay for singing a song about promiscuity!

  • Music Is Not About Skin Colour

Am I alone in thinking that labelling music as "black" is racist - regardless of who is doing the labelling?

Okay, I'm probably missing the whole point of this article, but what annoyed me was the way the media and artists rush to stick people into categories of music based purely on their skin colour.

    Take this paragraph;

She sounds like she heard some Aretha records once and she's got a deeper voice - that don't mean she's soul. That don't mean nothing to me in the grand scheme of my life as a black person. As a songwriter, I get what they do. As a black person, I'm like: you're telling ME this is MY music? Fuck that! They keep trying to tell me in the media what soul music is and I'm like, we KNOW what soul music is, stop fucking around with us! You're taking the piss out of every black person in the country!

Why do you have to claim a genre of music as yours, simply because of what you look like? Music is, and should always be, open to everyone from every culture, nationality, and people with different colour hair (redheads, blondes, etc).

Secondly, I don't claim rock or folk music as specifically white music, nor as "my" music. I am really not bothered about who else listens to rock, folk or old Dusty Springfield era songs. If you do, great - if not, it's your choice.

And if we are going to bring race into music, here's something to think about. "There's only one race, the human race" (Cited to the two people who I heard that from first). In the context of music, every genre is open to every person who lives, and should not be restricted to a group based on petty things like skin, hair or eye colour.

And for the record, I don't think Duffy or Adele are anything like queen Aretha Franklin. The former is more like Dusty, and the latter is another Amy Winehouse.

  • Been Inspired By Philip Pullman...

(See post somewhere down this page)

"The Amber Spyglass" got me thinking, and writing a poem about how Lyra is like Jesus. Possibly not what Pullman had in mind, but it doesn't matter - books and other stories are all about how people interpret as much as anything else!

    Lyra and Jesus

    Saving the dead,
    From eternity of despair.
    Leading them out,
    To float through air.

    Preventing the end,
    Of life everywhere.
    Going back to light -
    Follow Lyra there.

    Giving up a piece
    Of their life,
    To converse with ghosts
    And lead them from death.

    Making a sacrifice -
    Not their will.
    Now the dead live -
    They're living still.

    Lyra and Jesus
    Rescued the dead.
    Leading them to light,
    To float forever.

    ------

Thank you Mr Pullman for inspiring me. :D

  • So That's Why I Don't Get Through Interviews!

Apparently 90% of employers hire the most attractive candidates. So I'm not inexperienced, I'm just not model height, size 8 or physically attractive! Erm, that's not good, is it? :??:

Well, thanks to the tea tree oil face wash that my GP recommended, my skin is clearing up nice and attractively! :D And, perhaps I should, ahem, emphasise my assets more! :>

  • Finding Jesus in His Dark Materials

I've just finished reading the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman, and it was an amazing use of my time!

People have criticised it for being "anti-Christian", but I think the opposite is true - Lyra and Will leading the ghosts out of the world of the dead (a horrible place, full of despair), and into a form of eternal life floating around the universe, is reminiscent of what Jesus did. Very appropriate for Easter! :)

Also Lord Asriel and Mrs Coulter dying fighting Metatron, so their daughter could survive and find her daemon again. Shows that they did love her - enough to die so she wouldn't be harmed by The Authority.

And, for another Christian message at Easter, watch Monty Python's Life of Brian - especially the ending!

  • Strangest Football Missile

Now, I had heard of strange missiles from stands in Italian football grounds, but for some reason I am surprised by this story.

Aleg of lamb was thrown during a riot at a football match in Ballymena, on Saturday.

And, of course, the reason why this is news is because some animal welfare charity have complained. Even though, the leg of lamb looks like it was picked up from a local butchers, and not hacked off the animal as it pranced around the Irish countryside.

I'm struggling to think of the weirdest missile I've seen at a football match. All I can think of are the ones Lazio fans were throwing at black Arsenal players a few years ago.

  • Possible Facebook Statuses For A Sh*tty Day....

(Liverpool supporting friends welcome to comment)

    1. I am annoyed with officials, Chelski, Manure and Lady Luck.
    2. I can't see how you are supposed to make your own luck - you think I don't try!?
    3. I really shouldn't be allowed near weapons, especially if I'm near a Chelski player.

    Any more? ;)

  • Blogville's a Bit Quiet...

I'm a little upset, it doesn't look like many people are posting anything and I don't feel like I have the energy to go do something useful!

So what's everyone else doing? :>>

  • Stupid Woman Demanding Stupid Money

My little rant in a comment on AJ's post here inspired me to post this video.

It's a great song, and very funny video! :>>

As I said in my rant, this seems to be feeding a cult of celebrity, where girls just seem to want to marry rich men (eg, premiership footballers) and live off his money. In other words, not bothering to have an aspiration of their own. As Mr AJ correctly argues, this is not furthering equality and certain does not show women in a positive light.

So thanks Heather Mills, for encouraging this view of women! >:-(

  • Sympathy For Tibet

Reading the articles in the paper this morning, about the protests in Tibet has made me think. And, now this one on the Al Jazeera news site has made me upset. :(

It's a shame that it's descended into violence, but what do you expect when you have a group of people who are oppressed for a very long time? It's going to explode one day, just like in Northern Ireland, and many other countries which have been under imperialist rule. :**:

  • What Is Britishness?

Mordon Brown's latest announcement has reminded me of an old joke.

    Britishness is,
    1. Going out to an Irish-themed pub.
    2. Drinking Belgian lager.
    3. Then finding a restaurant that serves Indian/Cantonese style dishes.
    4. Then going home to sit on your Swedish made furniture.
    5. And watching American dramas on your Japanese made television.

Britishness, in other words, is about the diversity of it's population.

  • I'm So Childish, But....

This thing on Pickled-weedia made me laugh hysterically.

1977 - Rings of Uranus: Astronomers discover rings around Uranus.

Apologies for lowering the tone of this blog. I'll get back to doing something useful!

  • Gilraen's Blog Meme

    1. Latest blog friend? Why?
The latest one who actually comments? That will be The_Real_Linda, because she invited me and she has an interesting blog! :)

    2. Oldest blog friend? Why?
natalies_blog. I can't remember, it was nearly three years ago!

    3. Groups. Good, bad, annoying?
Good at first when I joined a few. Now, largely pointless because I barely look at them.

    4. Who do you miss the most from your blogfriends that have left BCUK?
    Fruitbowl.
And I miss the fact that Cartlionel and ViEiRA don't comment or blog now, even though I chat to them regularly.

    5. Who out of your blog friends that have since left do you not really miss?
Erm...I miss every blog friend who disappears.

    6. Would you want to meet the bloggers who are your blog friends in real life?
    Yes. Some of them.

    7. Blog friend or blogger that you wished posted more often?
    Vort1gern.
    Cartlionel.
    Vieira.

    8. What is the most annoying thing about using BCUK?
I'm in agreement with AJ on this answer. The sploggers who post a load of advertising on their blogs, and then send millions of invites out to everyone because they want to be popular.

    9. Are you a Pro? Why/Why not?
No. Because I can't justify spending the money, when BCUK allow me to create five blogs for being one of the first to sign up! :>>

    10. Post a link to your very FIRST blog post here, so everyone can have a laugh....
    (Hope I haven't deleted it!)

First one that still survives is this one.
    * I hate gardening, mainly because it involves physical work.
    * The 31 million seconds discovery is a result of boredom.
    * I've often deleted posts, it's called "self-editing". :p

    11. Recommend a blog, any blog from anywhere in the world...
This one. No one else's blog matches the quality. *ahem*

    12. Do you think blogging has improved your life?
Yes. It gives me regular writing practise!

  • As Yesterday Was International Womens Day....

I was inspired to write something, and dedicate it to all mothers everywhere! :D

    Mama's Kitchen

    My mama loved her kitchen.
    It was "her" space.
Daddy never got a look in.
    He knew his place!

    She could bake and bake,
    Bread and birthday cake.
Once, for me, a figure eight.
    A creation to delight.

    Bacon hotpot and pizza,
    And that's all I remember.
Even though Dad was just an eater,
She did let me help her.

    Give a good mama,
    Her space to choose.
    To work and nurture,
    Filling her own shoes.

    ****

Here's to some very important women; mothers!

  • A PostSecret Youtube Video....

Only because I don't have anything else to blog about (publically) at the moment.

To the soundtrack of The Fray's "How To Save A Life" - appropriate song.
