This guy has got to be the legend of the week! Not excusing anyone at all, he's angry at China for it's extreme nationalism and angry at the West for apologising to China all the time.
And he quotes Confucious;
Confucius said, "There are three friends that do good, and three friends that do harm. The friends that do good are a straight friend, a sincere friend, and a friend who has heard much. The friends that do harm are a smooth friend, a fawning friend, and a friend with a glib tongue."
An honest friend is better than a friend that tells you what you want to hear! Excellent advice.

Ma Jian is a good writer, but he might have pointed out the long tradition of boycotting western goods in response to what are seen as offensive anti-Chinese acts and attitudes. Its not just been under this current regime. There were such popular boycotts a hundred-odd years ago under the Qing emperors.
