Found this story in Tuesday's Metro.

I loved reading Enid Blyton's "Enchanted Wood" books when I was little (see the reference in the title), and never failed to get excited when a new world appeared at the top of the tree.

I still have "The Enchanted Wood" and "Folk of The Faraway Tree" on my bookshelf.

I liked the Land of... erm... can't remember what it was called. Maybe the Land of Sugar? Where everything was made of edibles, and one of them got in trouble for stealing somebody's doorknob! The Land of Do-As-You-Please was cool as well (V for Vendetta anyone?) The tree in itself was awesome. Can we install a Slippery-Slip somewhere? Finally, what happened in the Land of Treats?

  Do you think Alan Moore was inspired by Enid Blyton? Given that he's from that generation, it wouldn't surprise me.

i loved it as a kid, so much so that I've recently (this last year) bought myself a collection of all the stories in one book, and chuckled like mad as I read them.

    was she called Fanny by any chance?
    And no that wasn't why I laughed. They are such escapist books, you wonder whether Enid was maybe smoking/taking/drinking something to aid her imagination!

      Wouldn't surprise me. It would be like the 60/70's songwriters who wrote some good songs while apparently high!
