As for the domestic violence issue - like in the song, victims of domestic violence do love the person who beats them. (Not just partners, siblings too) I witnessed in a courtroom, as woman who had been attacked by her brother defended him by saying he didn't mean to do it. No matter how much someone beats their relative/spouse/partner, they still love them and will still defend them. Crazy, when you think it may be safer for them to just get out.
